This Valentine’s Day, Sandton City, Nelson Mandela Square, and their shoppers are sowing the seeds of love for a cleaner earth with WWF.
This Valentine’s Day, Sandton City and Nelson Mandela Square partner with The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to sow the seeds of love for the environment, while encouraging its shoppers to adopt climate-positive behaviours through the means of a miracle plant – The Spekboom.
Shop at the iconic centre between 13 – 15 February 2020, and spend R350 or more in order to redeem a free Spekboom. There will be a Spekboom Pop-Up shop located in Apple Court (near the iStore), manned by WWF volunteers, where customers can redeem their plant and learn more about the incredible sustainable qualities The Spekboom has in the face of climate change.
The #SpekboomChallenge, where people are urged to plant a Spekboom, has hit South Africa by storm and Sandton City and Nelson Mandela Square have accepted the challenge, and are thrilled to have shoppers partake too.
The Spekboom (Portulacaria Afra) is a proudly South African plant making waves in eco-conservation. The hardy plant, found mainly in the Eastern Cape, stores solar energy, attracts pollination, is water-wise, and fights climate change and air pollution. It has been proven to absorb the highest percentage of carbon dioxide in comparison to any other plant on the planet. Said to be up to ten times more effective at carbon fixing than any tropical rainforest, the Spekboom is undoubtedly a wonder-plant and is a great companion when moving towards a sustainable future.
